Materials: Looooooong piece of string (say 4-8 metres?), spoons, a bag of lollies or other alternative prize
This game has two elements to it and is a great way to get over the initial 'awkwardness' of meeting new people and working as a team.
Split the youth up into teams of 3 or more (the bigger the teams the crazier it gets).
Give each team a spoon with the piece of string tied to the end.
The first part of this game requires the team to 'sew' themselves together...this means everyone standing in a circle facing inwards and working your way around the circle by threading the spoon down one person's top and pants, then up the next person's pants then top etc. The teams must see how many people they can thread the string through (keep going around the circle until the group can get no closer, this may mean someone has been 'sewn up' 3 or more times).
The group who has sewn up the most people wins this part.
Then line all the groups up (still sewn together) and get them to race to a designated point where a bag of lollies awaits (i have played this numerous times and the best ones were where you had to race around buildings and over longer distances...or alternatively, rather than have a designated route, if you are inside, tell them to run to the oval or vice versa...then they can choose their own route).
NOTE= where possible, give girls the opportunity to change into clothes that are not skin tight, a skirt or a low-cut top...you'll see what I mean when you play :)
