Game categories: Relaxing games, Messy food games, Icebreaker games, Prize games

Materials: Ruler Video Camera

All the participants pair up in girl/boy couples. In a similar concept to 'chicken', each person in the pair must first stick out their tongue, and then try to get as close to the other person's tongue as possible without making contact. This will be judged by both ruler and video camera. - this footage can be used for youth promo videos later on ;)

Debrief the game with James 3:5-8.

This works really well at our gatherings, and is a great icebreaker.

this game is so innapropriate! i played this once at youth group and 4 couples had hooked up by the end!!
it was way awkward.

Harold, I can't believe you think this game is innapropriate! Clearly the problem is with you and your youth group management if you can't play a great game like this without your youth acting innapropriately...

You have got to be kidding!! this game goes beyond inappropriate! We teach our youth to abstain from sexual or immoral contact with the opposite sex and here the church leaders are putting temptation in their face, literally, and making a game of it?!? what is even more scary is the fact that some people justify it and call it a "game"! ridiculous!!

even though this is a stupid and ridiculous game, i think people who talk about games like this and 'honey if you love me' so seriously, are naive at best.
do you think it is more likely that kids are being brainwashed into promiscurity by a few harmless youth group games, or the fact that EVERY FORM OF MEDIA portrays an image that furthers a sexually permissive culture?
if we're going to make allegations like that lets not stop there, lets say that games with a 'winner' and 'loser' are innapropriate because they further the non-biblical notion of inequality between superior and inferior social groups. look at the wider picture in society before you blame a youth group game for degenerative morals.

paulo, in some ways you make a good point, but if the reality is that society is encouraging kids to be overtly sensual at a younger and younger age, why do they need to be exposed to that at youthgroup as well?
our job as leaders is to provide an environment in which the youth can grow and be nourished in their faith.
sure, a few harmless games most likely aren't going to ruin that. but it is also our responsibility to consider that some kids who come to the youthgroup might be struggling with issues and this game could exacerbate those.

I really don't know what to think of this game. You really shouldn't have youth doing this, but it might teach them how nasty kissing is. lol

Sounds like a great game just wondering why it has to be girl/boy couples? in my group we have a higher ratio of girls to boys, it wouldn't be inappropriate with same sex groups would it?

I don't see why not Michael. Most of the time we have played this game we don't have an even mix of guys and girls and single sex couples also work well.

I wouldn't allow my teens to do this...not wanting to throw temptation at them like that...there are so many other games to play that are appropriate for them, this is not!

Hey harold..was it way awkward when your counsellor was an air freshener??

jim and jono, i 'dont' know who you are, but this heckling over the internet is not appreciated. let me refer you to to deuteronomy 28:16, which i believe was written specifically as a warning against cyber-bullying.

r u sure that's the right verse hun? "you will be cursed in the city and cursed in the country." I figure its up to you whether you consider this inappropriate, but it definately fits the steriotypical "silly youth group game", I wouldn't play it because aside fro the fact I have no control over my kids and they probably would hook up (they probably all are anyway)i don't think parents would be too impressed when the kids go home and tell them and you wuld have the one or 2 kids that no one wants to go with cos 'they're disgusting'another good game for taming your tongue is like chubby bunnies but with hot chillies your toungue is like a fire

i think this is a great way to work out physical boundaries. coming close is ok, but touching is not. a sex talk would be great to follow this.

I think it's inappropriate for a youth game.

Mary

July 10, 2010 at 7:25 pm

just think about it, would you like your daughter to be infront of a boy close to kissing him, even worse almost touching tongues, that's disgusting and worse to be happening in church

July 11, 2010 at 5:40 am

It's just not right! and im alarmed that many found this interesting. It is better to tell them to go and kiss than to have them standing there face to face, eyes to eyes, tongue to tongue as if in an intimate position. What is it that we are promoting in church?

Anthony

this game is WAY inappropriate for anyone... how far do they go until they are french kissing, not to mention two guys or two girls... i find it disgusting as a youth minister. it crosses the boundary. teens are already hormone driven, we don't need to add to that

Chris

nothing wrong with a cheeky french kiss between friends...

I think a lot of pastors/youth pastors are pervs and they get their jollies from watching youth do things like this. Just saying.

A Concerned Youth

I played this game and it was lots of fun, except I thought using tongues might be a bit innapropriate so instead we got the youth to start holding hands and then move their hands to different places until one stopped. Worked awesome.
